Let’s explore various research based frameworks I use to inform my Instructional Leadership...

Updated: Jan 23

Welcome to my shopping cart of tools used to effectively design Instructional programs for my students in order to better assist them in their growth as a life long learner.

FlipGrid

FlipGrid is my tool of choice as the students gravitate to video discussions. The connection they make to social media using the features of this tool enables the students to share more about themselves than they would otherwise.

For those who are somewhat camera shy, I rely more on google forms based assessments. The concept is simple, the students are presented with a set of open ended questions, multiple choice questions, and ranking questions. All of which is designed to obtained critical background information on my students to better assist each and everyone of them in a tailored manner.

Running Records

As for data collection tools I use to assess topic specific skills like literacy in Earth Science, I generally start with a Running Record for each Student:

Following, I check for evidence of student learning by the level of progress they've made when I repeat the running records assessment towards the end of the semester.

SanDiego Assessment

I like to use this test to measure my students ability to recognize words within the context of a particular subject such as Math Vs. an out of context set of words. The test would be repeated through out the semester to gauge student progress.

Graphing

The ability to create an appropriate graph is an essential skill that helps students develop in Science, Math and various other subjects. Students can also use a graph to support evidence or to communicate their evidence to their peers. With that said, the student are able to demonstrate learning via various modalities, digital or hard paper. If they choose digital, offer them the opton of using google docs drawing feature to assess their ability to navigate within the google docs platform and leverage the features available such as the drawing capabilities to solve a subject specific problem such as the one below:
